ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027: Host Venues, Brand Identity and New Tournament Format Unveiled
The countdown to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 officially began on Thursday as the tournament’s brand identity and 12 host venues were unveiled in Johannesburg, marking Africa’s return as host of cricket’s biggest ODI event after 24 years.
The 14th edition of the tournament will jointly be hosted by South Africa , Zimbabwe and Namibia, with matches spread across 12 venues, eight in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe and one in Namibia.
Built around the theme ‘Three Nations, One Heartbeat’, the tournament celebrates the shared culture and diversity of the three host nations while embracing the African philosophy of Ubuntu.
“The unveiling of the host cities and the tournament brand signals the start of a journey that will unite fans around the world,” Shah said.
“The return of this prestigious tournament to Africa after 24 years is a landmark moment for cricket. We are confident that South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will deliver an unforgettable event.”
Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki said the launch marked the beginning of the tournament’s promotional campaign and expressed hope that it would generate excitement across the continent.
“We are hoping to get the country excited, the African continent excited and the world excited. This is really the start of our marketing campaign for the World Cup,” he said.
The tournament will begin with a Super Series involving the three lowest-ranked teams, with the winner advancing to the group stage. The next round will feature 12 teams split into two groups of six, before the top sides progress to the Super 7 stage, which will determine the four semi-finalists.
