IOA bars minor cyclist Lisha Das' female physio from Commonwealth Games venue
NEW DELHI: Minor para cyclist Lisha Das faces fresh hurdles ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after her physiotherapist and female support staff member, Dr Asha Shaikh, was designated a “non-accredited accompanying person”, barring her from entering the competition venue, field of play or assisting during events.
In an email to the Cycling Federation of India , IOA president P T Usha said that, in line with a Delhi high court order, Shaikh would accompany Lisha but only as a non-accredited person, while technician K Dattatraya would receive accreditation.
The move leaves Dattatraya as Lisha’s only accredited support member after coach Aditya Verma was dropped from the contingent and Shaikh’s accreditation withdrawn.
In response, Lisha wrote to the authorities, saying she needs assistance with her rearzipped aerodynamic racing suit and other essential personal requirements, including using the washroom, and urged officials to consider the practical needs of a minor female athlete competing internationally.
