IPL 2024: Suryakumar Yadav Set To Miss More Matches For Mumbai Indians: Reports

The much-awaited comeback of India’s T20I star batsman, Suryakumar Yadav , might face a delay as he focuses on fully recuperating from a sports hernia surgery , closely monitored by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Per a PTI report, indications suggest that Yadav might skip several matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Nevertheless, there's optimism as the talented batsman is steadily progressing in his recovery journey.

An undisclosed source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) stated, "Surya is making very good progress and very soon he will be back playing for MI . However, he might have to sit out for a few more games, having missed the first two."

Emphasis is being placed on ensuring Yadav's full fitness for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States of America and the West Indies later this year.

Yadav sustained his injury during India’s tour of South Africa and has been sidelined since then.

“For BCCI, the main concern is if he is on course for World T20 which he is. Obviously, he will play for MI but after a sports hernia surgery, he can’t be rushed”. the source added.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have keenly felt Yadav's absence, evident in their losses in the two matches played thus far. Their defeat against the Gujarat Titans was followed by another loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who set a record team total in T20s.

Yadav has earned a reputation as one of the premier batters in the T20 format , boasting impressive statistics with 2141 runs in 60 matches at an average of 45.55 and a strike rate of 171.55.

MI, the five-time IPL champions, eagerly await Yadav's return, hoping for a change in their fortunes. Similarly, the national team is counting on Yadav's prowess as they gear up for the T20 World Cup.

In their upcoming match, Mumbai Indians will face the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium , marking their first home game of the season, scheduled for Monday.
