With just a week of action remaining in the IPL 2026 season, the tournament is on the verge of creating history. In only 67 matches so far, batters have smashed a staggering 1290 sixes, which means fans are witnessing a maximum almost every 11.6 deliveries. The explosive batting approach seen throughout IPL 2026 has completely transformed the scoring pattern across teams.

IPL 2026 Already Outperforming Previous Seasons

The six-hitting rate this season has already surpassed IPL 2025, when 1294 sixes were hit across 73 matches at a rate of one six every 12.76 balls. With several matches still left in IPL 2026, the tournament is expected to comfortably cross that record.

The introduction of the Impact Player rule in 2023 has played a major role in this batting revolution. Since then, batting strike rates in the IPL have continued to rise every year.

In IPL 2023, the overall batting strike rate crossed 140 for the first time, with players smashing 1124 sixes during the season. The following year, IPL 2024 saw strike rates climb beyond 150, while 1260 sixes were recorded at a rate of one every 14 deliveries.

Now, within just three seasons, batters are clearing the boundary more frequently than ever before, gaining nearly three deliveries per six compared to earlier editions.

Lucknow Match Could Bring Historic IPL Record

The upcoming clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings in Lucknow could become a landmark moment in IPL history. The tournament currently sits just five sixes away from setting a brand-new all-time record for most sixes in an IPL season.

Given the aggressive batting trends seen this year, the milestone is expected to be broken very soon.

Powerplay Batting Has Reached Another Level

One of the biggest reasons behind the record-breaking six-hitting numbers has been the ultra-aggressive batting during the Powerplay overs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Emerges as IPL 2026 Sensation

On the individual front, Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become one of the biggest talking points of IPL 2026. The teenage batting sensation has created several new records this season with his fearless stroke play.

Sooryavanshi smashed 12 sixes in a single innings to register a new Indian record. He has also become the fastest batter to hit 50 sixes in an IPL season.

With 53 sixes already this year, he now stands second only to Chris Gayle’s record of 59 sixes in a single edition, and importantly, he still has at least one game remaining to add to his tally.

IPL’s New Batting Era Continues

The numbers from IPL 2026 clearly show how rapidly T20 cricket is evolving. Teams are batting with far greater intent, especially in the Powerplay, while players are consistently maintaining higher strike rates throughout the innings.

As the season heads into its final week, IPL 2026 is not just delivering entertainment but also redefining batting standards in franchise cricket.
