Ireland Name ODI Squad for Afghanistan Series as Moondra, McDonough Earn First Call-Ups
Cricket Ireland has unveiled the squad for the first three matches of the upcoming five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan, set to take place at Bready and Stormont. This series will be the first challenge for newly appointed Head Coach Gary Wilson as Ireland shifts its focus to the 50-over format.
Injuries continue to be a concern for Ireland, with several players sidelined for the opening matches, while others will be evaluated after the first three games of the series.
Jai Moondra has received his first ODI call-up after impressing in the recent T20I series against India. Additionally, 24-year-old fast bowler Byron McDonough has made the senior national team for the first time, thanks to his standout performances in the recently concluded Inter-Provincial 50-over Cup, where he played a crucial role in helping Leinster Lightning secure the title. Ben Calitz has also been selected for his first ODI squad.
