Jean-Eric Vergne after Shanghai E-Prix podium: “I'm very happy to be very frustrated with P2”
Jean-Eric Vergne claimed his first podium for his new team, Citroen Racing , at the Shanghai E-Prix . However, he had been aiming for the win, but it was Lola Yamaha ABT’s Lucas Di Grassi who crossed the finish line first after starting from 19th position. JEV, too, secured a podium finish after starting from 18th position. Vergne also felt glad to have brought out the best in himself amid the thunderstorms in Shanghai. Jean-Eric Vergne was among the last on the grid, just like winner Lucas Di Grassi and third-placed Joel Eriksson of Envision Racing, who started from 17th position.

Jean-Eric Vergne opens up on claiming podium in Shanghai
Talking after the Shanghai race, Jean-Eric Vergne said, "I'm feeling very good - I'm actually very happy to be very frustrated with P2! Considering the season we've had, having a podium here today is fantastic, especially considering where we started. Both Lucas [di Grassi] and I were talking on the grid like: 'lost for lost, you know, let's try and use the dry pressure'.”
“Actually, I couldn't even follow the Safety Car at the beginning, so I got asked by the engineers to put the wet pressure, but I fought back. Luckily we did, and I'm very happy for the team. It's been a rough season, so having a podium is nice," he added.
Jean-Eric Vergne simply shared a picture of himself with the trophy on Instagram and wrote: “About time.” His happiness was enough to add to the caption.
Reacting to his post, Shanghai E-Prix winner Lucas Di Grassi wrote in the comments: “Always great racing with you. Today I had a bit more luck.”
A fan also commented: “Congrats! I saw you at the awards ceremony. You put the trophy in front of your face like a mask - that was so cute!” Another wrote: “Finally! Great drive, bro.”
JEV also took to his Instagram Stories to show that he threw the champagne to one of his team members, but the latter ended up spilling it despite catching it successfully.
