Indian F2 driver Kush Maini , a 23-year-old racer from Bengaluru, recently had the extraordinary opportunity to test drive the BWT Alpine F1 car. This significant event marked his first full Formula 1 test, an experience he described as exhilarating and beyond his wildest dreams. Though Maini had a brief test run in 2021, it was limited to a single lap, making this recent session a comprehensive and thrilling experience.
The Unmatched Experience of Driving an F1 Car
Reflecting on his experience, Maini struggled to find words that could adequately capture the adrenaline rush of driving a Formula One vehicle. "It still hasn’t sunk in," he said, expressing his awe. The dramatic difference between expectation and reality hit him hard. "You think it is going to be a step up, but it is so much more than you can imagine," he explained.
Maini highlighted the substantial increase in downforce and the car's ability to navigate fast corners with incredible speed. "These cars are at the pinnacle of what we do in our sport and are at the limit of the rules," he elaborated. The performance levels were starkly different from what he had experienced in Formula 2. "For instance, at the Red Bull Ring, we were going five, six seconds quicker than what we did at F2," Maini noted.
