Manav Suthar Takes Historic Five-Wicket Haul On Test Debut; Who Was The First Indian To Do So?
Indian spinner Manav Suthar has etched his name in the record books and that too on his test debut as he took a five wicket haul against Afghanistan in India vs Afghanistan 2026 test match and has been included in a list of exclusive list of ten Indian bowlers who took five wicket hauls in their debut test match
For any cricketer, making a test debut is a matter of pride and requires years of hard work and determination and to mark that occasion with a five wicket haul is very prestigious.
Over the next nine decades, very few Indian bowlers achieved this feat. V.V. Kumar achieved this feat in 1961 against Pakistan in Delhi while Syed Abid Al did this in 1967 against Australia in Adelaide.
Spinner Dilip Doshi had joined this prestigious list in 1979 while Narendra Hirwani achieved this marvelous feat against the mighty West Indies in Chennai in 1988.
Mohammed Shami followed this in 2013 against West Indies in Eden Gardens. More recently, Axar Patel achieved this feat in 2021 in England in Chennai.
