Shreyas Iyer Becomes First Indian Captain to Reach Historic Milestone After UK's Disappointing Tour

Newspoint

Shreyas Iyer became the first Indian captain to win in the shortest format as he guided India to a narrow 35-run win over Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on Sunday in the 3rd T20I of the series. India had already bagged the series 3-0, and this was a significant milestone for the new T20I captain.

The series win has been a huge boost for Iyer after a rough beginning to his captaincy. India had lost successive series in Ireland and England before arriving in Zimbabwe. The comprehensive victory in Harare has thus been an uplift for the side, and Iyer has etched his name in history as the first Indian captain.

Historic Milestone for Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer achieved the first-ever 3-0 whitewash of Zimbabwe in a T20I series of 3 or more games as a captain of the Indian cricket team.

India had experienced victory over Zimbabwe in the shortest format until now in the series, but they had not had a captain secure a whitewash in the three-match series. Suresh Raina
