Team India Set for Major Coaching Overhaul as Multiple Staff Members Likely to Exit: Report

Newspoint

After a poor performance in the T20 internationals against Ireland and England, Team India might undergo a thorough change in its coaching staff. As reported by the Times of India, quite a few members of the support staff are expected to leave the Indian team, apart from a senior coach who is expected to leave the team after the current England series.

India's recent performances have not gone down well. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, India lost a T20I series by 2-0 against Ireland, followed by a series loss against England. England led 3-0 with the crushing 9-wicket win in the fourth T20I.

The support staff presently comprises head coach Gautham Gambir, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, bowling coach Morne Morkel, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and the spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule.

Coaching Changes Likely After England Series

According to the report, one senior member of the coaching staff is likely to part ways with the setup while another might also exit in a few months. It pointed out that the decision is not directly related to the recent losses in India but is thought to have arisen because of the events of a few months ago.

The same report also suggested that one of the employees due to leave the club is very likely to join an IPL franchise before the 2027 season. It is also reported that negotiations are in process.

"This possible move is not due to the team’s poor outings in Ireland and England, but rather something that has been brewing over the past few months."

The report even went on to say that the Indian dressing room has not been looking good since the team’s two-Test home series defeat to South Africa. It too stated that there is a 'difficulty of managing the playing personnel' between the selectors and the coaching staff, occurring since.

"It is learnt that cracks have deepened in the dressing room since the two-Test defeat against South Africa at home, and it is not the happiest place to be at the moment. The disagreements between the selectors and the coaching staff have further complicated matters."
