Travis Head Surpasses Suryakumar Yadav To Claim Top Spot In ICC T20 Rankings
Australia's opener Travis Head has overtaken Suryakumar Yadav to become the number-one batter in the latest ICC T20 rankings released on Wednesday. Suryakumar Yadav had held the top position since December 2023, but Head's exceptional performance in the T20 World Cup propelled him to the top spot, even though Australia has been eliminated from the tournament.
Head amassed 255 runs, including two half-centuries, with a notable 76 against India in the Super Eight stage.
Despite Head's narrow two-point lead over Suryakumar, the Indian batter has an opportunity to reclaim the number-one position as India's campaign in the T20 World Cup continues.
In other ranking updates, England’s Phil Salt and Pakistan's Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan complete the top five batters list.
The West Indies’ Johnson Charles has entered the top 10, moving up four spots, while Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz also climbed five spots to secure the 11th position.
Among bowlers, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made a significant leap of 44 places to reach the 24th spot, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav moved up 20 places to just outside the top 10, now sitting in the 11th position. Spin all-rounder Axar Patel is now ranked eighth, maintaining his position as the top Indian bowler.
England’s Adil Rashid continues to lead the bowling rankings, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan rising to second place after his World Cup heroics. Josh Hazlewood of Australia moved up three places to fourth, just behind Wanindu Hasaranga.
In the all-rounders’ rankings, Marcus Stoinis dropped to fourth place after briefly holding the top spot. India’s Hardik Pandya advanced to third, with Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi in second and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga reclaiming the top position. West Indies’ Roston Chase made a notable advancement of 17 places, reaching the 12th spot among all-rounders.
