IPL 2026 Brought Sooryavanshi Into The Spotlight

Sooryavanshi had that kind of “dream season” vibe with Rajasthan Royals. He opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and ended up smashing 776 runs, finishing as the tournament’s top run-getter. Along the way, his efforts also saw him grab the Orange Cap and take home the Most Valuable Player honour.

The youngster became one of the season’s biggest headline makers, because he kept pulling out innings that turned matches his way , and still managed to keep fans entertained with an aggressive brand of batting.

Because of his IPL success, people started asking about his long-format future too. A bunch of former cricketers said he has the skill to make it in Tests as well , not just the shorter stuff.

Former Players Lend Support For Red-Ball Cricket

Several ex-players, including Ravichandran Ashwin , Cheteshwar Pujara and Dale Steyn, have backed Sooryavanshi’s chances in Test cricket. In their view, he can grow into a successful red-ball batter and bring even more crowds into stadiums, thanks to the kind of thrilling approach he has.

Sooryavanshi Responds With a Straight Answer

Speaking to Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder, Sooryavanshi made his stance very clear. He said he wants to play for India in every format, and he hasn’t sidelined red-ball cricket at all.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said:

"A lot of people have been asking and discussing whether I want to play red-ball cricket in the future or not. So I answered that by saying I've already done a lot of practice with the red ball and continue to do so. I've also played plenty of red-ball cricket for my state and I still play it."

He’s Ready To Tailor His Game For Tests

Even though he’s known for an attacking style, Sooryavanshi understands that Test cricket asks for something different. He said he’s ready to shape his game based on what each format demands.

He Added:

"I want to play red-ball cricket because I train for it regularly. The reason I bat the way I do in this format is because that's what this format demands. When I play red-ball cricket, I'll adapt my batting to whatever the format requires. Similarly, in ODIs, I'll adjust according to the demands of that format. My dream is to play all three formats. The rest is in God's hands."

These remarks basically show he’s open to evolving his game, and taking on fresh challenges when the chance comes.

So What Do His Red-Ball Numbers Look Like?

Sooryavanshi’s First-Class record is still developing. In eight matches, he has 207 runs at an average of 17.25, with one fifty in total.

Even so, he looked promising during his time with India’s Under-19 team in England and Australia. In those tours, he scored 223 runs at an average of 31.85 and showed clear signals of improvement in the longer format.

Right now, the stats may not fully match his potential, but age is definitely on his side. With steady opportunities and more experience, Sooryavanshi has time to build himself into a stronger red-ball batter.

For now, Indian fans will be eager to watch how the young talent performs at the international level, as he starts his senior-team journey.
