IPL 2026: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Becomes First Indian to Smash 50 Sixes in a Season
Rajasthan Royals teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his extraordinary run in IPL 2026 by becoming the first Indian cricketer to hit 50 sixes in a single Indian Premier League season. The historic milestone came during Rajasthan Royals’ crucial clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday.
With Rajasthan Royals chasing a massive target of 220 runs in a must-win game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the 15-year-old once again stepped up under pressure. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a sensational knock of 93 runs off just 38 balls, helping RR stay alive in the contest with one of the most explosive innings of IPL 2026.
The record-breaking six came off Lucknow pacer Mayank Yadav in the 11th over. After sending the previous delivery over long-off, Vaibhav comfortably cleared the midwicket boundary on the next ball to bring up his half-century of sixes in IPL 2026.
With this achievement, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the first Indian player in IPL history to hit 50 sixes in a single season.
Now with 53 sixes to his name, the Rajasthan Royals opener is rapidly closing in on Chris Gayle’s legendary all-time IPL record of 59 sixes in a single season.
The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star had set that record back in IPL 2012. Andre Russell remains the only other batter to cross the 50-sixes mark in a season, having hit 52 maximums in 2016.
With at least one league match still remaining and a possible IPL 2026 playoff appearance ahead, Vaibhav has a realistic opportunity to surpass Gayle’s long-standing milestone.
Earlier this season, the teenage batter had already created history by smashing 12 sixes during his explosive 103-run knock off just 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. That innings became the record for the most sixes hit by an Indian in a single IPL match.
He also registered the fastest IPL century by an Indian after reaching his hundred in just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans last season.
Against Gujarat Titans earlier this month, he became the fastest player in T20 cricket history to complete 100 sixes, reaching the milestone in only 515 balls.
At the age of just 15 years and 43 days, he also became the youngest cricketer ever to hit 100 sixes in T20 cricket.
With his fearless approach, clean hitting, and record-breaking consistency, the young Rajasthan Royals batter is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars of IPL 2026.
