Watch: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Impresses in Practice Ahead of England T20I Series

Newspoint

Young batting wonder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi again showed, why he is one of India’s brightest young talents , during the team’s practice session ahead of the five-match T20I series against England. Even though he didn’t really get a go in the two-match T20I series versus Ireland, the 15-year-old still looked sharp, like really sharp, throughout training.

The left-handed batter has been grinding in the nets since arriving in Europe with the Indian team. His clean hitting, and that kinda fearless, bold mindset caught the eye of everyone , as India readied themselves for the first T20I against England on June 30.

A video of training session showed Sooryavanshi going after the ball with attacking strokes, and he looked pretty settled. He seemed at ease against both pace as well as bounce, smashing a bunch of hard drives, pulls, and hook shots, all of it looks effortless.

The youngster also went head-to-head with Indian fast bowlers Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna in the nets. Even when the bowlers came with short balls and yorkers, Sooryavanshi played back his game with confidence, and hardly appeared rattled or bothered.

His timing, and his choices of shots, impressed the people watching the session, and it suggests he’s prepared whenever the team’s decision-makers feel like giving him an opportunity.

Strong form continues after IPL and India A

Sooryavanshi’s 2026 season has been something special. He got his first India call-up after a breakout IPL stint, where he was among the most exciting batters in the tournament.

The teen also captured the Orange Cap, finishing as the top run-getter in the domestic T20 season. His fearless approach, plus the speed at which he can put runs on the board, made him one of the biggest talking points of the year , without doubt.

Before stepping into the senior setup, Sooryavanshi also turned out for India A. In five innings, he racked up 211 runs, at a strike rate of 200.95. That continued the attacking vibe, which is honestly his clearest strength.

In IPL 2026, he kept the momentum going with a blistering strike rate of 237.31 across 16 matches, showing he can take control even against better quality bowling, not just in one-off moments.

Competition makes a debut tricky

Still, even with this kind of form, Sooryavanshi’s international debut might take a little longer. A lot of fans thought he would show up during the Ireland series, but the management decided against picking him in the playing XI.

Now with the England series having even more weight, breaking into the side feels tougher, like, really tougher.

India already have an experienced opening pair in Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Yes, both haven’t produced their best work in recent games, but the coaching staff has shown belief in them, and that matters.

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate recently hinted that the team wants to keep the same opening combination, which makes it harder for the youngster to force his way into the starting XI.

Patience could be the key

Even if Sooryavanshi is knocking loudly with his performances, India’s team management believes that each player has to wait for the proper moment. The teenager has already proven he can back himself, and he can succeed at the highest level.

This latest practice session looks like another sign, that he is ready when the time finally arrives.

For now, India are likely to stick with their preferred opening pair against England. But if Sooryavanshikeeps delivering the way he has over the last few months, then an international debut may not be far away.
