Mohammed Siraj delivered a superb inswinging yorker early in the innings that narrowly missed clean bowling Avishek Porel. Porel managed to jam his bat down just in time to deflect the ball towards the third-man fielder. Kohli was visibly upset by the outcome, sparking a heated exchange over the incident.
The RCB fast bowler and his teammates appealed loudly for an LBW, believing the ball had struck the pads. Despite their efforts, the on-field umpire remained unmoved. Siraj promptly requested a review after TV replays indicated the ball had missed the pads entirely. Observing this, Kohli appeared visibly displeased, approaching the umpire for a heated discussion, followed by a conversation with opposing captain Faf du Plessis.

Kohli and the umpires found themselves in a tough spot once again, as this wasn't their first encounter with controversy. Previously, during an RCB match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Kohli raised his voice at the on-field umpire regarding a contentious dismissal, drawing widespread attention and sparking debates that lasted for days. As a result, the former India captain was fined for his actions.
“Mr Virat Kohli, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024,” IPL said in a statement.
Kohli was found guilty of a Level 1 offense according to Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The 36-year-old acknowledged the offence and agreed to the sanction imposed by the match referee.“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement added.
