Who should replace Tino Livramento for England at World Cup?
England's World Cup preparations have been rocked after news that Tino Livramento won't take part in this summer's tournament broke on the eve of the Three Lions' first match. The good news for Thomas Tuchel is that the window for making changes to the squad remains open and the German will be able to make an emergency call-up.
The good news is that Livramento didn't appear to be in England's first-choice starting XI, with Nico O'Reilly and Reece James having either side of defence locked down. However, Livramento's versatility was one of the plus points to having him in the squad, with Tuchel now forced to reshuffle his plans.
The early noise suggests Trevoh Chalobah will be selected as the replacement for Livramento, with the defender having worked under Tuchel at Chelsea. Chalobah featured 47 times for the Blues last season and was part of the team that won the Club World Cup in the United States.
However, the decision has appeared to raise eyebrows, with many questioning whether Chalobah is the best England can call up in this situation. The seemingly obvious choice would've been Trent Alexander-Arnold, who wasn't originally selected in England's squad.
And while it looks as if the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager is opting for a different path, do you think it is the right one? Vote in our poll and tell us who you think Thomas Tuchel should've selected to replace Tino Livramento in the England squad.
Livramento isn't the only fitness concern heading into the opening match for England, with Tuchel also sweating over the fitness of Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal man arrived at camp carrying a niggle and could even be forced to sit out the opener against Croatia.
Speaking ahead of the match, he stated: "I don't want to say anything that goes against the manager. But what I would say between Mikel [Arteta] and Arsenal's medical team and England's medical team, since March they have managed me amazingly and helped me get back on the pitch and do what I can for the team. I am feeling better than I have felt for the last few months. I am ready to go.
"As players it's the biggest gamble, especially if you're not feeling your sharpest. You have the choice whether you don't play or you put yourself out there knowing people are going to judge you the same. At the end of the day people don't really care how you're feeling, they expect you to deliver, they expect you to perform. I'm happy to take the gamble. It paid off, I'd say. I'm going to continue doing that. But I am feeling a lot better than I did in March and I'm ready to go."
