This one meant a lot.” The reaction came after Świątek battled past Taylor Townsend 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in a match that tested her far more than the score from the opening set suggested.

But Townsend, known for her left-handed game and strong net play, completely changed the rhythm in the second set. The deciding set was much tighter. Both players had their moments, but Świątek stayed calm when it mattered most and finished the match 6-3 to move into the second round.

According to Wimbledon match records, Townsend became the first player this decade to take a set off Świątek in the opening round of a Grand Slam . Even though Świątek advanced, it was far from the comfortable start many expected.
