Wimbledon 2026: Williams sisters back in action, receive doubles wildcard

Tennis legends Serena Williams and Venus Williams have been awarded a wildcard to compete in the women's doubles at the 2026 Wimbledon.

This will mark their return to the All England Club as a team after a long hiatus. However, neither of them has been given a wildcard for the singles event yet.

The tournament starts on June 29.

Williams sisters' current form

Serena, 44, recently made her comeback at Queen's after a four-year hiatus since what was thought to be her final match at the 2022 US Open.

She is currently competing in Berlin with Karolina Muchova before joining Venus for their doubles campaign at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, five-time Wimbledon singles champion Venus has struggled this season, losing all seven of her singles matches but winning a doubles match with Britain's Katie Boulter in April.

The Williams sisters at Wimbledon

The Williams sisters revolutionized tennis in the 1990s with their powerful playing styles and athleticism.

Together, they have won 30 Grand Slam singles titles, including 12 at Wimbledon.

They have also claimed six women's doubles titles at Wimbledon, their last being in 2016.

The duo last played together at the 2022 US Open, which was Serena's farewell tournament before she moved away from the sport.

Serena's much-awaited return

It is worth noting that Serena recently returned to the sport after announcing it through a social media post.

The 44-year-old legend teamed up with rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko for the Queen's doubles event.

Despite her long absence, Williams proved she still has her signature power by serving at speeds of up to 193kph.

The two won their match against third seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe in straight sets - 7-6(2), 6-2.
