OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has issued a new warning about artificial intelligence, saying that technology has reached a stage which was once confined to science fiction. According to a report by Business Insider, speaking on the Relentless podcast, Altman said, “We are now, like, in the singularity,” referring to the theoretical point where AI surpasses human intelligence and begins advancing beyond human control. The latest remarks made by Altman are build on his earlier warnings that artificial intelligence could dramatically reshape the global job market. In his previous interviews, the OpenAI CEO predicted that automaton and AI systems would eventually perform between 30% and 40% of tasks which are presently done by humans, potentially wiping out millions of jobs across the world. He has repeatedly said that while AI will create new opportunities, this transition will be disruptive and require governments and businesses to rethink workforce training and social safety nets. Altman described the coming shift as ‘the biggest economic transformation since the Industrial Revolution.’
