All UK Aldi shoppers placed on red alert as new heatwave scam confirmed
Aldi shoppers are being warned to watch out for a new type of scam that is using the current hot weather to try and cash in. UK customers appear to be receiving fake emails promising cheap air conditioning products. The message contains links which then direct unsuspecting users to unofficial web pages that look just like the famous budget supermarket chain. These counterfeit sites even copy the store's design and use real products to make things harder to spot
The pricing displayed looks hugely tempting, with some products being slashed by hundreds of pounds.
The security team at Kaspersky, who spotted this latest cyber trick, says the scheme mirrors previous attacks where scammers advertise a timelimited discount, claim a limited quantity of items, and even display the exact number of visitors viewing the product at that moment or set a limited period for purchase.
All of this adds a sense of pressure and can lead people to click links and hand over personal information without thinking.
"Pressuring buyers to act fast is one of the techniques scammers use," Olga Altukhova, cybersecurity expert at Kaspersky, explains.
"When demand spikes, warnings that only a few items are left or that a discount is about to expire can easily compel users to enter financial details or personal data.
"To avoid falling victim to such scams, stay calm and doublecheck everything, especially the website's URL and design. If you're unsure about a site's authenticity, look it up in a search engine to verify it's legitimate, or use a security software to perform the check."
It's unclear how many people may have been caught out by this scam, but it's now vital that all Aldi shoppers stay and follow some simple rules.
Kaspersky says, always be wary of any large-scale discounts and very time-limited offers, as this may be a signal that the offer is fake.
It's also vital to double-check e-shop websites before filling out any information. Look for misspellings, extra characters, or a different website domain from the official Aldi store.
Do not trust any links or attachments received by mail, double-check the sender before opening anything and do not trust any links or attachments received by mail. Double-check the sender before opening anything.
Finally, always compare the product's description and photos with the official manufacturer's site.
