In the ongoing saga of Android users grappling with malware, a recent concern has emerged regarding several apps on Google 's Play Store capable of stealing personal data and recording phone calls. Researchers from ESET have uncovered a new malware named VajraSpy , lurking within 12 malicious apps, with a troubling revelation that six of these apps had been present on the Play Store for over two years. While Google has reportedly removed these six apps, they remain accessible on alternative app stores, emphasising the need for user caution to avoid sideloading them onto their Android devices.

The six Android apps found housing the VajraSpy malware on the Google Play Store include:

• Let’s Chat
• Quick Chat
• Chit Chat
• Rafaqat
• MeetMe

Google has typically taken action upon receiving reports from security researchers, but the recurring nature of such incidents raises concerns about the robustness of its Play Protect mechanism.
