Anthropic's IPO has a problem that 'just won't go way', and it is that the US government is becoming ...
Anthropic confidentially filed to go public as soon as this fall, riding its success story that it dominates the enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) market. However, as the startup prepares for a public offering that may carry a valuation of nearly $1 trillion, it is facing an existential crisis that just won’t go away: the US government is acting as its direct opponent.

The federal government has now ‘blacklisted’ Anthropic twice, forcing potential investors to weigh whether the company’s recently–gained massive valuation is going to take a hit because Washington is willing to shut down its flagship products overnight, a report by Fortune suggested.
The latest escalation came after an announcement in which Anthropic was forced to take its two newest AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, completely offline. The sudden shutdown was triggered by a US Commerce Department order barring foreign nationals from utilising the software. This latest blow follows a previous blacklisting by the federal government over national security concerns .
Trump government ready to ‘kick out Anthropic forever’
The government’s take toward the tech giant has been public and aggressive. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth took a victory lap on social media, signaling that the administration has no plans to back down.
“Three months ago, [the Department of War] kicked Anthropic out of our building—forever. Every passing day proves why that was the right move,” Hegseth posted recently. Even as Anthropic rushed senior technical staff to Washington over the weekend to desperately fight the export controls, the Department of War announced it has already migrated at least two-thirds of its AI workflows away from Anthropic’s models.
