Bombay High Court: Union minister Nitin Gadkari can sue Meta, Google and others over deepfakes

Bombay High has permitted union minister Nitin Gadkari to sue Meta , X (formerly Twitter), Google and other unknown persons over ‘defamatory’ deepfakes and AI-generated posts. According to a report by news agency PTI, the union minister for road transport and highways filed a leave petition with the HC on July 27 under Clause XII of Letters Patent, a requirement wherein the court’s permission is sought before filing of a suit, when part of the cause of action arises outside the territorial jurisdiction of HC. Such leave (permission) is required to allow the court to hear and decide a suit despite jurisdictional limitations, the report stated.
