The reveal also marked the first public mention of Unreal Engine 6, which appeared with a new purple logo. However, Epic did not share additional technical details about the engine or explain how the upcoming version of Rocket League will differ from the current game. Rocket League’s move to Unreal Engine 6 could represent a major technical shift for the title, as the game continues to run on Unreal Engine 3, a technology in use for roughly two decades.

Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 6 arrives four years after its predecessor’s launch

The announcement comes four years after the launch of Unreal Engine 5 , which powers a number of modern titles, including Fortnite. Epic has not disclosed specifics about what Unreal Engine 6 will be able to do, but the timing has led to speculation that the engine will support games made for future console generations expected to be released in the next few years.

Earlier this year, Xbox confirmed that its next-generation console, reportedly codenamed Project Helix , is designed to run both “Xbox and PC games” and is expected to reach developers sometime in 2027.

Reports have also suggested that Sony could release a new PlayStation 6 hardware generation alongside a portable device. However, during a recent earnings call, the company said it had not yet decided on the launch timeline or pricing for the next PlayStation platform.

For now, Epic’s announcement leaves several questions unanswered about Unreal Engine 6 and the future of Rocket League, with the trailer offering the first glimpse of what the company describes as its next phase.
