Huge UK broadband speed upgrade confirmed but only if your postcode is on the list
Fed up with dismal downloads and constant stuttering when streaming? A massive broadband boost has been announced that aims to fix those irritating internet issues. EE has just confirmed the switch-on of its latest service called Advanced Full Fibre broadband. This new system is capable of offering speeds up to 8Gbps per second, which is around 80 times faster than a standard connection.
With this system installed, it would take just 4 seconds to download a full HD movie or just over a minute to install a 70GB PlayStation game.
The boost has been made possible thanks to the next-generation XGS-PON upgrade. This is a fibre broadband technology that delivers much faster internet speeds over full-fibre (FTTP) networks than older systems.
EE says it is launching the service to meet the demands of modern households. It's hoped that Advanced Full Fibre will improve intensive activities such as 4K and 8K streaming, online gaming, remote working, video conferencing and smart home technology.
There is another bonus for homes. The update also offers ultra-fast upload and download capabilities which makes it ideal for customers who regularly upload large files, create content, back up data to the cloud or rely on seamless video collaboration.
So who gets it and how much does it cost?
Right now, EE's Advanced Full Fibre is available in Guildford, Woking and surrounding areas.
EE's Advanced Full Fibre 2.3Gbps plan is available from £54.99 per month, and the 8Gbps plan is available from £74.99 per month.
Speaking about the boost, Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home and TV, EE said "Today marks a major milestone for EE as we become the first major UK provider to offer broadband speeds of up to 8Gbps on next-generation XGS-PON technology.
"As homes become more connected and customers place greater demands on their broadband, we're investing in the technologies that will power the next generation of digital experiences.
"Advanced Full Fibre combines exceptional speed, reliability and capacity, giving customers the confidence to do more online today while being ready for whatever comes next. We're delighted that households in Guildford, Woking and the surrounding areas are the first to benefit, and we look forward to bringing this capability to more homes across the UK."
