New Google Feature Auto-Scans Barcodes And QR Codes For Seamless Information Retrieval
Google has recently introduced a significant enhancement to its AI-driven feature , Circle to Search . This upgrade allows your device to automatically scan barcodes and QR codes , making information retrieval faster and more efficient. Launched alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, this feature is also accessible on select Pixel devices.
When using Circle to Search, users no longer need to manually highlight QR codes or barcodes. Instead, once the code is visible on the screen, the feature instantly scans it and displays a useful chip that enables the user to visit a website with just one tap. This streamlined process reduces the time and effort previously required to scan codes.
According to Mishaal Rahman, a trusted tipster, this feature was initially discovered in late June but has now been widely rolled out to more users.
The Circle to Search function operates as a visual search tool by analyzing on-screen content and delivering relevant information based on highlighted or circled areas.
In addition to its scanning capabilities, Google has added a music discovery tool to Circle to Search. As Google explained, “Whether it's a song playing on social media from your phone or music playing from speakers near you, simply long-press the Home button or navigation bar to enable Circle to Search, then tap the music button to identify the track name, artist, and even launch a YouTube video to explore more.”
Google has also launched a feature that allows users to listen to web pages through Chrome, with customizable settings for listening speed, voice type, and language. Moreover, the new Talkback feature , specifically designed for individuals with low vision or blindness, leverages Gemini models to offer audio descriptions of digital images.
"Whether you're looking at online product images, photos on your camera roll, pictures in text messages, or images of what's happening on social media, the Android screen reader employs the best features of Google AI to bring pictures to life," the company stated. Additionally, Google is expanding its Android Earthquake Alert feature, now rolling it out in the US.
