Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made his first-ever post on Twitter (now X) on July 24. In the post, Jensen Huang shared an open letter on why open models matter. The letter, signed by Nvidia and 24 other companies, warns the US not to repeat the mistake of over-restricting technology the way some feared for open-source software in the 1980s. It argues that open-weight AI models should be preserved as a foundation for American leadership. “Our AI leadership will be judged not by one frontier AI model, but by whether the United States builds a strong, open ecosystem that diffuses into every sector,” the letter says, adding “This is essential for creating opportunities for innovation and prosperity across the country”.
