Uber Partners with ONDC to Simplify Delhi Metro Ticket Booking via App

In a move aimed at simplifying urban commuting, Uber has partnered with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to allow users to book Delhi Metro tickets directly through the Uber app. The feature, announced last week, is currently available in the Delhi-NCR region and is part of a broader push to integrate public and private transport services via a standardized digital protocol.

This development follows the footsteps of Rapido, Uber’s competitor, which previously launched metro ticket booking services through ONDC for users in Delhi and Chennai.

How Does It Work?

The new feature allows users to skip long queues this summer by purchasing QR code-based metro tickets in just a few steps:

1. Open the Uber app on your phone and tap on the “Metro tickets” option.
   
2. If the service is available in your area, the app will prompt you to enter your source and destination stations.
   
3. Select the number of passengers for whom you want to book tickets.
   
4. Uber will then display the total amount payable and offer the option to apply a coupon code, if available.
   
5. Choose your preferred payment method, such as UPI, and tap “Continue to payment.”
   
6. Upon successful payment, a QR code ticket will be generated.
   

This QR code serves as your metro ticket, which can be scanned at the token section during the security check at metro stations. If you need a receipt, simply tap the “Receipt” button below the QR code to access and download it.

Important Things to Note

• The QR-based metro ticket is valid only until the end of the service day. It cannot be used on the following day.
  
• The service is currently limited to Delhi-NCR, but Uber plans to expand it to more cities in the future.
  
• Uber is offering a 20% discount on metro ticket bookings, though it remains unclear whether this is for select users or will apply to future rides as well.
  
• As of now, ONDC does not charge any network fee, but it has proposed a fee of ₹1.5 for every transaction above ₹250, starting July 1, 2025.
  

The integration of public transit operators like Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) with private players such as Uber through ONDC marks a significant step in creating a seamless, tech-driven commuting experience for Indian passengers.
