WhatsApp Innovates with Nearby File Sharing Feature for Increased Privacy
WhatsApp is said to be in the process of developing a new feature that enables users to share files with nearby individuals, similar to Android 's 'Nearby Share' functionality. The upcoming file-sharing feature, currently available to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.2.17 users, requires them to access a new section for sending and receiving files.
According to a report by WABetaInfo , users are expected to shake their devices to generate a share request, limiting file transfers to contacts only. The feature, much like text messages and calls on WhatsApp, will boast end-to-end encryption, enhancing privacy.
While resembling a long-standing Android feature, WhatsApp's implementation offers added security by keeping the phone hidden from those not on the user's contact list. This could prove beneficial for sharing photos or videos in public spaces.
The report indicates that the file-sharing feature is still in development, and its availability in a future version of the app remains uncertain. WhatsApp has recently introduced various features for Channels , allowing users to send voice updates and create polls.
