New Feature Spotted in iOS Beta

According to WABetaInfo, the Strict Account Settings feature has appeared in the latest iOS Beta (TestFlight) version of WhatsApp. Users can find it under Privacy > Advanced, where they can enable the " Extreme Protections " mode. Once activated, WhatsApp enforces multiple security restrictions automatically. This includes blocking media and attachments from unknown contacts, restricting incoming calls and messages, and preventing unauthorised account changes. WhatsApp has cautioned that enabling this mode may slightly reduce call and message quality.

Automatic Privacy Protections

Activating Strict Mode not only applies these primary protections but also automatically enforces several existing privacy features. These include silencing unknown callers, limiting group invites to saved contacts, disabling link previews, notifying users about encryption code changes, enabling two-step verification by default, and hiding personal information from unknown numbers. This one-click activation ensures that all essential privacy measures are applied without manually toggling multiple settings, making it highly convenient for security-conscious users.

Release Timeline

While WhatsApp has not shared an official launch date, the feature is currently under beta testing. Users can expect it to roll out gradually to iOS and Android devices once the testing phase is complete.

A Major Boost for Online Safety

With phishing, hacking, and cyber exploitation on the rise, WhatsApp’s Strict Account Settings represent a significant step toward safer digital communication. By offering an AI-enabled, privacy-first approach, WhatsApp is evolving from a simple messaging app into a secure platform that prioritises user protection in the digital age.
