WhatsApp To Introduce Per-Chat Storage Management On Android And iOS
WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to manage storage on a per-chat basis. According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp Beta for iOS, available via the TestFlight app, introduces a storage management option directly within the contact information screen. Android users are also part of the beta testing process.
The iOS beta version 25.31.10.70 includes a new entry point that enables users to manage storage from an individual chat’s information page. This mirrors the existing “Manage Storage” feature found in the app’s main settings, but makes it more convenient by letting users access it without leaving the conversation. It allows users to view and remove large media files shared in a specific chat, streamlining the process of freeing up space.
Within the chat info screen, the new section presents a grid view of all shared media, including photos, videos, and documents. The files are organised by size, making it easier to identify which items are taking up the most storage. Users can also sort the files by “Newest,” “Oldest,” or “Largest” to quickly locate specific media.
The interface supports bulk deletion of selected media items, similar to the main Manage Storage feature. Users can remove multiple files at once, helping to quickly free up storage on their device. Additionally, media items can be marked as “starred,” making them easier to locate later within the same conversation.
This per-chat storage management feature aims to improve user control over device storage and make it easier to manage conversations with heavy media sharing. Instead of navigating through general storage settings, users will now have the option to handle storage efficiently within each chat.
