After SC Rap, NCERT Removes Chapter On 'Corruption In Judiciary' In Revised Class 8 Textbook
The revised NCERT Class 8 Social Science textbook has introduced significant changes following the Supreme Court's direction to withdraw an earlier edition over a controversial chapter on the judiciary. The new edition revises the account of the Congress' stance on the 1947 Partition, stating that whether accepting Partition was the "only way forward" remains a matter of debate. It also removes a sentence suggesting Congress leaders were helpless during communal violence. References to Adolf Hitler and Nazi ideology in the context of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's World War II efforts have been replaced with a broader mention of "anti-British forces". The book also adds a reference to V.D. Savarkar's 1925 call for Swaraj and rewrites the judiciary chapter to focus on constitutional functions, following the Supreme Court's directions.
