Agni-4 Missile Fills Crucial Range Gap, Bolsters India’s Strategic Deterrence Against China

India successfully conducted a user trial of its nuclear-capable Agni-4 medium-range ballistic missile from Chandipur, Odisha, with the Strategic Forces Command overseeing the launch. Developed by DRDO, the 4,000-km-range missile strengthens India’s strategic deterrence and bridges the gap between the Agni-II/Agni-Prime and longer-range Agni-V systems. Its range enables India to hold strategic targets deep inside China at risk, while also covering parts of Southeast, West and Central Asia. Agni-4 can carry nuclear or conventional payloads and is designed for rapid deployment from a mobile launcher. The missile incorporates advanced guidance, navigation and re-entry technologies. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the launch as a “textbook mission,” reaffirming India’s growing indigenous strategic missile capabilities.
