AIUDF To Challenge Assam UCC In Court, Says Law Is Not Truly Uniform
AIUDF General Secretary Rafiqul Islam has strongly opposed the Uniform Civil Code passed by the Assam government, arguing that it does not qualify as a true UCC because it excludes a large section of Assam's population. Speaking in Guwahati, Islam alleged that the law selectively targets certain communities while exempting millions of others. He claimed the legislation interferes with constitutionally protected Muslim Personal Law practices and described it as discriminatory and unconstitutional. The AIUDF leader urged the President and Governor not to approve the measure and announced that his party would challenge the law in court, beginning with the High Court and, if necessary, moving the Supreme Court.
