Assam Floods: Death Toll Climbs to 66; BJP Launches ₹12 Crore Relief Campaign

Assam's flood death toll has risen to 66, with more than 6.54 lakh people still affected across six districts, even as the overall situation shows signs of improvement. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said water levels have begun receding in several areas, allowing relief operations to expand. The Assam BJP has launched a ₹12 crore relief campaign to provide two lakh Mekhela-Chadors for women and clothing for two lakh children in the worst-affected districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 810 villages remain submerged and nearly 35,000 hectares of farmland have been damaged. Meanwhile, 274 relief camps are sheltering displaced residents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the flood situation for the second consecutive day and assured Assam of full Central support for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
