Cabinet Approves Tougher Anti-Paper Leak Bill; Up To 10-Year Jail And Rs 10 Crore Fine Proposed

The Union Cabinet has approved amendments to the Prevention of Paper Leak law, proposing significantly tougher punishment for those involved in examination paper leaks. The proposed legislation provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine of up to Rs 10 crore, and increases the minimum imprisonment from three years to five years. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Bill will be introduced in Parliament soon, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed there should be no delay in bringing the legislation. The move comes amid the NEET paper leak controversy and nationwide protests demanding stronger safeguards for competitive examinations.
