Centre Denies Reports That Bhutan Rejected India's E20 Petrol Proposal
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has dismissed reports claiming that Bhutan rejected a proposal to import E20 petrol from India, calling such reports "incorrect". The ministry clarified that India's Oil Marketing Companies have not made any formal proposal to export E20 fuel to Bhutan and urged people to rely only on official information. The clarification came after a report claimed Bhutan had requested continued supplies of conventional petrol, citing ageing fuel storage infrastructure and concerns over ethanol-blended fuel in mountainous terrain. The report also said Bhutan feared water seepage into underground storage tanks could affect fuel quality. Meanwhile, India's E20 petrol rollout continues to draw debate, with some vehicle owners reporting lower fuel efficiency and higher maintenance costs, while the government maintains the blend offers overall benefits.
