CM Vijay Urges PM Modi To Keep Lok Sabha Strength At 543, Opposes Population-Based Delimitation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Centre to permanently fix the strength of the Lok Sabha at 543 seats. Vijay has also called for the existing state-wise distribution of Lok Sabha seats to remain unchanged and highlighted Tamil Nadu’s demand for 33 percent reservation for women in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and subsequent Assembly polls. The demand comes amid concerns in southern states over the possible impact of population-based delimitation on their parliamentary representation.
