A diplomatic controversy has erupted after Bangladesh summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka over the detention and questioning of Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Rahman was travelling to lead Bangladesh's delegation at the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) meeting when he was stopped during immigration checks for nearly two and a half hours. Bangladesh has expressed deep disappointment over the incident, while reports suggest a security watchlist alert may have triggered the delay.
