FCRA Bill Sent To 31-Member JPC Amid Opposition Protests, Akhilesh-Rijiju Clash Over Minorities

The FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026 has been referred to a 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee through a voice vote amid fierce Opposition protests in the Lok Sabha. Opposition parties have alleged that the proposed amendments could target minorities, NGOs and civil society institutions, while Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju challenged the claims and asked MPs to identify any provision targeting minorities. Akhilesh Yadav and Rijiju also engaged in a sharp exchange. The JPC will have 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha members and is expected to submit its report during the 2026 Winter Session. Watch
