Flash Floods, Landslides Hit J&K’s Poonch-Rajouri; Vaishno Devi, Amarnath Yatra Suspended
Heavy overnight rainfall triggered flash floods and landslides across Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri districts, leaving at least 11 people dead and several others missing. Rescue teams from the administration, police, Army, SDRF and local volunteers are carrying out search and relief operations in affected areas. Several villages were hit by landslides, while flash floods damaged houses and forced residents to move to safer locations. Authorities issued advisories after the Chenab River’s water level rose following heavy rains. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviewed the situation and assured assistance to affected families. Meanwhile, the Amarnath and Vaishno Devi yatras have been temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions.
