From Brazil To India: Inside Gujarat’s Biggest Cocaine Seizure

In one of India’s biggest maritime anti-drug crackdowns, Gujarat ATS and the Indian Coast Guard seized 115kg of cocaine worth nearly Rs 1,150 crore from cargo vessel MV Europe near Mundra port in Kutch. Officials said the consignment originated in Brazil and travelled through Mexico, the US and Karachi before reaching Indian waters. The cocaine was allegedly hidden inside the ship’s motor room and meant for a mid-sea transfer before being routed to Delhi for nationwide distribution. Two Tanzanian crew members were identified as key suspects, while two alleged receivers — a Nigerian and a Ugandan national — were detained from Delhi. Investigators also recovered Apple AirTags and Garmin GPS satellite communication devices, indicating the syndicate used electronic tracking to monitor the shipment during transit.
