‘Hitting Us On Head, Face’: Police Lathi-Charge Students During Assembly Gherao March In Jharkhand

Police lathi-charged students during the 'Vidhan Sabha Gherao' march in Ranchi on Monday, as protesters attempted to breach barricades on the 17th day of their agitation over alleged JPSC-JSSC exam irregularities. Several students were injured, with one calling the crackdown "barbaric" for being hit on the head and face instead of below the waist. Injured protester Vikram Kumar directly appealed to CM Hemant Soren, saying the march was peaceful. Hunger-striking leader Devendra Nath Mahto joined despite his condition, arriving by ambulance and continuing on a stretcher. Earlier, police had used water cannons on protesters. Adding pressure, the Enforcement Directorate has launched a PMLA probe into alleged irregularities in the JSSC-CGL exam, days after students demanded a CBI investigation.
