'I Lock Up Religion When...': Annamalai Confirms 'We The Leaders' Will Become Political Party
Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has outlined the future roadmap for his newly launched movement, "We The Leaders," saying it will eventually transform into a political party at an appropriate time. Speaking at the Drug-Free Pollachi Awareness Conference, Annamalai said religion and caste would remain outside the organisation's framework, stressing that its focus is on governance and making Tamil Nadu a leading state. He remarked, "I am a Hindu, but when I step out, I lock up my caste and religion inside my house." Annamalai said the movement is not based on membership drives but on public participation, and announced a target of planting 50 lakh trees over the next six months. He also highlighted the strong presence of women and youth in the organisation, predicting that Generation Z would play a decisive role in shaping Tamil Nadu politics by the 2031 Assembly elections. The remarks come weeks after Annamalai resigned from the BJP following the BJP-AIADMK alliance's setback in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
