India-UK Trade Deal Kicks In From July 15, 99% Of Indian Exports Get Duty-Free Access

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed on July 25, 2025, will come into force on July 15, 2026, becoming the Modi government's sixth implemented free trade agreement. The pact grants duty-free access to nearly 99% of Indian exports to the UK, benefiting sectors such as textiles, garments, footwear, food products, automobiles and engineering goods. India will also gradually reduce tariffs on several UK products, including premium vehicles, Scotch whisky and other alcoholic beverages. However, sensitive products such as apples, walnuts, smartphones and gold bars remain outside tariff concessions. The agreement also covers government procurement, intellectual property, rules of origin and social security relief for Indian professionals working temporarily in the UK, while boosting bilateral trade and investment.
