Iran Terms India's Attendance At Khamenei Funeral 'Deeply Valued Gesture', Sends Formal Gratitude
The Embassy of Iran in India has expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of India for their support and presence during the funeral ceremonies of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. In an official statement, the embassy described India’s participation as a meaningful gesture of solidarity at a time of national mourning, underlining that such support goes beyond formal diplomacy.The statement highlighted that Indian representatives, along with political leaders, scholars and members of diverse religious communities, attended the ceremonies, reflecting the depth of historical, cultural and human ties between the two nations. Calling it a “powerful expression of mutual respect,” the Iranian side said the people of Iran “will never forget” this gesture of friendship and compassion. It also termed India’s presence a “precious testament” to the enduring relationship between the two countries.India was officially represented by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain. Several political figures, including Mehbooba Mufti, Pawan Khera and Salman Khurshid, were also present.Khamenei passed away in February 2026 following a US-Israeli airstrike in Tehran, triggering widespread mourning across Iran. The funeral saw participation from multiple international delegations, underscoring the global attention surrounding the development and its diplomatic implications.
