Jharkhand Govt To Cancel JPSC Exams, But Rejects CGL Demand; Students Insist On CBI Probe

The Jharkhand government has rejected protesting students’ demand to cancel the CGL examination, saying it was conducted under High Court and Supreme Court directions and that selected candidates are already employed. Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu said the government had agreed to 98% of the students’ demands and proposed a two-pronged probe into alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC examination and backlog recruitments. The CID will investigate criminal aspects, while the government plans to request an ED probe into alleged illicit financial transactions. Students, however, continue to demand a CBI inquiry and have announced a peaceful Vidhan Sabha march on August 10. They are also seeking reforms in recruitment examinations and action over alleged irregularities in various JPSC and JSSC exams. So far, 19 people have been arrested in connection with the case.
