Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly apologised to the central government over issues related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), deepfake content and operational lapses on the company's platforms. According to PTI sources, Meta admitted that it received payments to promote certain types of content to specific audiences. The development comes after senior Meta executives met government officials to discuss compliance with Indian laws, content moderation and AI-generated content safeguards. The government has sought details on the company's measures to tackle CSAM and monitor synthetic content. The discussions also followed concerns over the temporary removal of a video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, prompting the Parliamentary Standing Committee to warn Meta over its safe-harbour protections under the Information Technology Act.
