A video from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad has triggered controversy after an alleged rape accused was seen receiving a celebratory welcome from supporters following his release on bail. Visuals circulating online showed supporters lifting him on their shoulders, raising slogans and taking out a procession-like celebration with cheers, handshakes and garlands. The incident drew sharp political reactions, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeting the Yogi Adityanath government over the development. In a post on X, Yadav criticised the public reception given to the accused and questioned the message it sends regarding women’s safety and accountability. He also alleged that the episode reflected the “true character” of the BJP and took a swipe at the ruling party over women-centric political messaging.
