SC Clarifies 'Criminal Antecedents' Caveat;CJP Demands Immediate Withdrawal Of FIRs Against Students

The Cockroach Janta Party has welcomed the Supreme Court's clarification that "criminal antecedents" in its July 28 order refers only to grave and heinous offences. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das urged the Centre and BJP/NDA-ruled states to immediately withdraw FIRs against student protesters, saying governments must honour the assurances made to the youth. The Supreme Court also indicated it is considering a judge-led mechanism or independent panel to examine allegations of police excesses during the nationwide anti-paper leak protests.
